Civil Partnership

The Civil Partnership (Jersey) Law 2012 came into effect on 2 April 2012.

The Community Relations Trust strongly believes the passing of this Law to be a major step forward.

Until it came into force, it was not possible for same-sex couples to secure any legal recognition for their relationship in Jersey. As a result, they could not enjoy any legal rights or take on any legal responsibilities for their relationship. This had a major impact on the quality of life of same-sex couples.

Thank you

While social change may seem inevitable, the reality is that a lot of work is done to achieve this. The Trust is proud to have played a part in this landmark legislation.

We would like to thank everyone who supported this campaign, especially the same-sex couples who added their names to our civil partnership register.
