JCRT statement amidst allegations of exploitation, harassment and racism faced by Jersey migrant workers

Flora Newman · 11 July 2025 ·

The Jersey Community Relations Trust (JCRT) stands in solidarity with the migrant communities who contribute so much to the life and fabric of our island, yet too often face discrimination, exploitation and poor treatment.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, valued and respected in the place they live and work. Migrant workers are not just part of our economy – they are our neighbours, our friends, colleagues and our fellow islanders.

Over the past year, the JCRT has been conducting in-depth research into the experiences of short-term and seasonal workers in Jersey. We have also been reviewing the island’s legislative framework, with the aim of making clear, practical recommendations that will help ensure all workers in Jersey are treated fairly – and feel that they truly belong.

As this research continues, we want to create safe spaces for listening. We welcome your input and lived experiences. If you are a current or former worker and would like to speak confidentially with one of our researchers, please email [email protected]. Your anonymity will be fully respected.

Together, we can build a more just, inclusive and compassionate island for everyone.
