Our objective
“We seek to eliminate discrimination on any ground including, but not limited to, grounds of colour, race, nationality or ethnic or national origins, gender or sexual orientation, disability or age, by promoting good relations between all members of society, and seeking to achieve equality of treatment and opportunity within our community.”
We aim to deliver our objective by:
- Promoting legislative changes to enhance equality.
- Commissioning research in areas where discrimination arises and recommending measures to tackle issues highlighted.
- Encouraging and facilitating community partnerships which enhance social harmony.
- Public awareness and education initiatives on discrimination issues.
How we are funded
We are grateful for the support of the Home Affairs Department. JCRT receives an annual grant of from the Home Affairs Department to cover the general annual running costs.

Our Trustees
The JCRT is led by a Board of Trustees, including one States Member. The Trustees bring a wealth of knowledge from different perspectives and experiences and help to develop and oversee the implementation of the Trust’s plans. Their passion for diversityand inclusion is invaluable not just to the JCRT, but to the wider
community we serve.

Kate Wright
Chair / Trustee

Kate Wright is a consultant providing HR, L&D and cultural change support to Channel Islands and UK-based clients through her consultancy, Arbre Consulting.
Kate is also co-founder of The Diversity Network, a business networking group and consultancy with a not-for-profit ethos, that works with employers to support diversity, equity and inclusion and facilitate cultural change across the business community.
A passionate campaigner for equality, Kate is Chair of Women for Politics and a member of the IOD D&I sub-committee.

Kaye Nicholson-Horn
Vice Chair / Trustee

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Kaye is vocal and visible in matters of equality, inclusivity and diversity and has sought to effect positive social change.
She has been featured in the local press on matters relating to equal marriage rights, same-sex parental rights and also contributed to the “People Power Protest” exhibition at the Jersey Museum on the importance of protest and campaigning. In 2020, Kaye was nominated for a Pride of Jersey award as a Diversity and Inclusion Champion.
Kaye is a Founder of the “Brilliant Books” Facebook group which recommends diverse and inclusive children’s books, and collaborated with JCRT to facilitate the distribution of inclusive children’s books to all primary school libraries on the Island.

Philippa Galan-Cabellero

Phillipa is a qualified teacher of over 20 years and currently works for the states of Jersey Education department. She has BA (Hons) in Social Policy and Bsc (hons) Psychology. She has a background in Educational Social research at university level where she has been involved in a various projects at local and national level.
She is has a keen interest in promoting and valuing diversity in Society, and has been involved in the work of different charitable organisations whilst living in Jersey for over 13 years.

Tina Jhurry

Tina is a Mauritian who has moved to Jersey since March 2022. She is a qualified company secretary (CGI, previously ICSA), with 10 years’ work experience and is currently working in the financial services sector in Jersey, as part of a Governance team.
Being new to Jersey and being passionate about governance, Tina strongly believes in diversity, inclusion and equity. She is keen to promote her belief in Jersey through the JCRT.

Sean Madden

Sean’s background is mainly in project delivery, data and operations in the finance industry.
He is passionate about improving social issues that benefit the Jersey community. He is involved with various mental health initiatives and is looking to expand this work into other areas to help people at scale through a range of new ideas.
Sean has joined the JCRT to help drive project deliveries, create a framework to make data driven decisions and to focus on finding core issues for the community and driving solutions to how we can solve them.

Deputy Carina Alves

Carina is the JCRT States appointed Trustee and has been an elected Deputy for St Helier since 2018 when she became the first person from Portuguese heritage to be elected.
She is passionate giving a voice to those in our community from minority and marginalised groups and striving to eliminate discrimination.
Carina is the chair of the States of Jersey Diversity forum, which aims to increase public engagement in democratic processes, particularly in relation to under-represented groups and the chair of the Political Awareness and Education Sub-Committee which aims to raise political awareness and engagement within the public.
She has a BSc in Secondary Mathematics with Information and Communication Technology and QTS and previously worked as a Secondary Mathematics teacher locally and a translator and administrator at local GP Surgeries.

Cormac Timothy

Cormac is the Headmaster of St George’s Preparatory School.
As a father of a boy (18) who has autism and severe learning difficulties, his energies for the past 14 years have been to ensure that those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) get a fair crack of the whip when it comes to Education, Social Security, Quality of Life, and a voice. He has worked with government, third sector and like-minded individuals to ensure that those with severe SEN have access to support to improve their life chances.
For the past five years he has also been a member of the Parent’s Carer Forum championing inclusion and equality for those on the edge of society. The Forum is working with a range of government departments to implement 50 recommendations that set forth a pathway for an inclusive society where all can prosper.
Cormac was also a trustee of Autism Jersey for 10 years.
